The impeccably designed Cinema Paris building is a key part of Sydney’s retail and entertainment hub, the Sydney Entertainment Quarter.
An artistic hub Formerly known as Fox Studios, Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter is a global drawcard for Australian and international film production. The Quarter comprises professional film studios and offices used for making blockbuster films including ‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Superman Returns’. The studios are complemented by a popular retail, dining and entertainment precinct.
Architectural input Allen Jack+Cottier designed several components of the development. These include retail and office spaces, the refurbishment of the Fox & Lion Tavern and, finally, the arthouse cinema, Cinema Paris.
A composition of modern fragments The Cinema Paris building features four arthouse cinemas and 2,099m2 of retail and office spaces. AJ+C’s design for Cinema Paris includes an animated, pedestrian-scaled streetscape, reminiscent of a traditional nineteenth-century ‘high street’. Modernist aesthetics exploit the theatrical possibilities of the billboard, cinema entrance and canopy.
