RCF Quakers Hill
data, awards, description –
A sensitive brief brings AJ+C’s specialist experience in aged-care architecture to the fore.
The essence of home
Designed to replace the one devastated by fire in 2011, this Quakers Hill facility builds upon its past, offering a real sense of home to its residents. With contemporary design and high-ceilinged rooms, the building differs dramatically from its predecessor. Structured as a series of ‘houses’, one on each floor, the design ensures shared space – both indoors and out – is matched equally by intimate, private areas.
Enhancing orientation
Integral to the organisation of space are comfort, safety and an important sense of diversity. A logical layout and range of design features assist residents with wayfinding. Courtyards are accessed via well-surfaced paths, common areas optimised for light and sun, and natural materials used to engender a sense of familiarity.
A serene space Within the memorial garden, shaded seating beckons to those affected by the fire, providing a place for rest and reflection amidst the colourful foliage.
