Milson Island is a holiday camp in the Hawkesbury River, NSW, totally focused on health and social equity, which groups of disadvantaged youths visit on week long trips. The brief for the building was for a robust multi-purpose sports hall to be used for indoor sports such as basket ball, netball and volleyball, as well as performances and exhibitions. But its real purpose is to allow anyone to participate, regardless of their physical or mental capabilities.

The hall forms the northern edge of a large open space at the centre of the island, on which other sporting activities are available. Therefore, the service rooms and changing rooms are towards the front of the hall and can be accessed from the green areas as well. They also serve to define a clear and strong entry space to the hall.
