Library, International Grammar School

A new library at the progressive International Grammar School (IGS) showcases AJ+C’s ability to incorporate sustainability and fun into modern, imaginative design.

Light-filled space Ultimo’s International Grammar School sought to increase library storage and provide students with practical new areas, including a senior study area. To enable this, AJ+C removed aluminium framed partitions and tall bookshelves. Fameless glazing and low-level shelving were fitted in their place, visually opening the space and improving amenity. Light colours and finishes enhanced the layout, brightening it and reflecting natural light.

Modern and sustainable A new colour palette, including bold hues influenced by corporate colours, hint at the playful aspect of IGS’s intended image. Finishes, such as EcoSoft backing to the new carpet, Echo-Panel pinboards and EcoCore desktops and benches, demonstrate both AJ+C’s and the school’s commitment to ecologically sustainable design. The fitout can be seen as a sort of design prototype, to be continued through further fitout projects at the school.
