Matt brings over 40 years of experience to AJ+C, with recent projects including master planning for the NSW Government de-velopment agency, UrbanGrowth, as well as seniors living developments and social & affordable housing projects across Sydney.
Prior to joining AJ+C, Matt was the Architectural Director of Swell Architects, which he established in 2003. Matthew has worked in Australia and internationally, directing projects in New Zealand, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Primarily working for large developer oriented architecture firms, Matthew’s 42 years of experience in the construction industry has enabled him to design and document nearly every building type needed by society. These have included over 13,000 residen-tial apartments in medium and high rise, social housing for the NSW Government, commercial office buildings, a hospital dental school, urban and regional shopping centres and retail shops, hotels including ballrooms, gyms, restaurants, industrial ware-houses, a convent and a golf resort.
Matthew has always worked with three dimensional CAD from its earliest days in the 1980’s because of a belief that it is the most intelligent method of transmitting ideas to all stakeholders in a project from the client through project managers, contrac-tors and subcontractors. He has proven that this saves clients time and money.
Matthew has a great interest in sustainable architecture. This encompasses many aspects of design from building location and orientation, material selection for embodied energy, solar access and solar power generation, water harvesting and recycling, waste recycling and reuse, air quality and environmental pollutant reduction.
Matthew is a registered architect in New South Wales and Queensland.
