Kensington, NSW, Australia

data, awards, description

New College Village at Sydney’s UNSW provides student residents with contemporary living spaces formed by principles of community and green living.

Fostering community This contemporary student housing development is a collection of studios and group-living apartments designed to encourage interaction and community. A large games room, business centre, reading room, several common rooms, courtyards and a roof terrace on the level four bridge create a village environment tailored to university life.

Green spaces, sustainable living The U-form of the village frames a large central courtyard opening to the University Mall, with plenty of space for outdoor activities and relaxation. A glazed wall protects a more intimate courtyard from the noise of Anzac Parade, also allowing students to open the windows of their apartments for natural ventilation. New College Village has been designed with efficiency in mind – incorporating carefully controlled solar access and rainwater harvesting, while also monitoring students’ energy consumption.
