Press Release: AJ+C unveils design inspiration for Best Sports Building in the World

17.03.10

Hear how the modest Berry Sports and Recreation Hall beat London’s Wimbeldon Centrecourt and the New York Jets Training Facility to win Best Sports Building in the World Architecture Festival Awards in Barcelona.

Award winning architect Michael Heenan of Allen Jack+Cottier (AJ+C) will talk about how the endless Australian sky inspired him to design a magical building that blends with the starry night sky.

Using precast concrete punctuated with hundreds of shards of glass, the building allows sunlight to fi lter in during the day and interior lights to shine out. The entire building is an overt expression of its ecologically sustainable features. Sit back and be inspired at the Australian Institute of Architects’ Tuesday Night Talks.
