Wee Hur Student Housing, Gibbons Street

Weehur Redfern Student Housing is an 18 storey tower, designed to be a high-quality managed student residence which provides for the expressed need for affordable housing for students, both domestic and international, within the vicinity of the urban campuses of central Sydney.

Envisaged as a place for young people, that is fun and fosters learning, creativity and friendship, it includes communal areas such as a rooftop garden with BBQs, kitchen and dining, a games room, 24-hour gym, private study rooms.  The residents will be living away from their family homes – and even their home country – for the first time in their lives, having experiences which will shape and define the rest of their lives.

The 2-level brick podium references Redfern’s has a strong tradition of brick residential, retail and industrial buildings whilst a new public art offering by a local aboriginal artist connects the development with local cultural heritage. The artwork will become a `destination’ artwork that would be part of the Redfern art walk and attract wider community. A new landscaped public laneway for bikes and pedestrians, and space for both students and the local community including public retail and bike workshop will activate the area.
