A roof that hovers overhead Designed by AJ+C CEO Michael Heenan, the replacement Western Grandstand at Wollongong’s WIN Stadium transforms the experience of attending matches and events. Featuring a superstructure comprising in-situ and pre-cast concrete elements, the new grandstand is notable for its 100-metre span roof truss that floats above to support the lightweight roof.
Home ground advantages The southern home of the St George Illawarra Dragons rugby league team, WIN stadium aspires to become one of Australia’s most advanced sporting grounds. The redevelopment features 5,732 seats, increasing the venue’s capacity to 22,000. Spectators also enjoy improved facilities, all of which are compliant with National Rugby League (NRL) standards. These include corporate entertainment amenities, ticketing box offices and turnstiles, concession areas, toilets and player dugouts, as well as referee and media facilities.
