Sustainability
At AJC, we care about the planet and recognise the pivotal role our industry plays in global emissions.
We commit to working towards and beyond zero in our pursuit to create a positive environmental impact.
We aspire to accelerate our industry’s response to the climate and biodiversity crises by taking responsibility for the impact of all new projects we undertake. We call this our handprint, and this is where our biggest impacts are – through thoughtful, sustainable design. We have developed a Sustainability Action Plan to allow us to focus on areas where we can make the most significant difference.
Our business operations, which we call our footprint, have been addressed separately under our independent and ongoing ISO 14001 certification. We’ve already made significant gains in this space, switching to 100% Green Power and becoming self-certified Carbon Neutral since 2021.
AJC SUSTAINABILITY ACTION PLAN (SAP)
While carbon is, rightfully, moving up the agenda within our industry, carbon consideration alone is not enough to create a truly sustainable building. To this end, AJC take a holistic, broad-spectrum approach, which considers a range of “good design” prompts including:
Our 9 prompts help us make sustainable choices on our projects and ensuring that every project is not only eco-friendly but also beneficial to the people who use and inhabit the spaces.
Ultimately, the most sustainable building is one which stands the test of time, loved, and looked after by generations, with the ability to adapt and flex to change. The most successful design process elevates sustainability from a box-ticking exercise to creative design which drives value for both architecture and users, while delivering on simple yet strong principles and an authentic narrative.
