AJC Shortlisted for Two Projects in the 2025 Sustainability Awards
September 2025
Adaptive Reuse (Alteration/Addition): Reddam House North Shore
Education & Research: Newington College Eungai Creek Campus – Stage 1
Reddam House North Shore
The adaptive reuse of the iconic 1971 Simsmetal House by Harry Seidler, Reddam House demonstrates how heritage architecture can be transformed into a vibrant K–12 school. AJC’s design preserved and reinterpreted key Seidler elements – including sunshades, staircases, and paving patterns – while delivering flexible learning environments, a basement sports hall, and rooftop play space within the building’s original envelope. Sustainable servicing strategies, low-VOC finishes, reused materials, and enhanced thermal performance further strengthen the project’s environmental credentials.
Newington College Eungai Creek Campus – Stage 1
Located on Dunghutti Country, the Eungai Creek Campus is a purpose-built rural facility immersing Year 9 students in a transformative experience of sustainability, community, and personal growth. The 1,600m² campus includes cabins, a health centre, reception, and dining hall, all designed with regenerative principles and carbon-positive materials such as compressed straw panels and biochar-infused linings. Elevated structures preserve the landscape, while biophilic design connects students with nature and views to Mount Yarrahapinni. The campus is both a school and a living example of environmental stewardship.
These nominations are a wonderful recognition of our teams, clients, and collaborators who share our commitment to sustainable, future-focused design.
