The Southern Lookout was designed to reveal the stories of its place, while allowing the landscape itself to remain the hero.
Set within Hornsby’s former quarry, the weathering steel lookout is the first built intervention in the transformation of Hornsby Park. The wider masterplan is led by CLOUSTON Associates for Hornsby Shire Council.
In this video, AJC’s Lee Collard reflects on the ideas that shaped the Southern Lookout – from the site’s volcanic diatreme and surrounding forest to its industrial past, and how these layers became embedded in the architecture.
The Southern Lookout offers an inclusive gateway for the whole community to experience the tranquillity of Hornsby Park and witness the dramatic beauty of the former quarry, its surrounding bushland and the ancient volcanic diatreme.
