Pro bono project commences

AJC is delighted to begin work on our first pro bono project in collaboration with Architects Without Frontiers (AWF).

We prepared a schematic site plan for Stage 2 of the Cakaudrove Women’s Resource Centre in the town of Savusavu, on the island of Vanua Levu, Fiji. New facilities include teaching and accommodation spaces, a commercial kitchen, office and administration space, a Meke area for dancing, space for a Lovo pit earth oven and a nursery.

Women come together from all over Vanua Levu and beyond to meet, study, create and share support at the Centre. Stage 2 will give them a safe place to stay and resources to develop capacities, preserve Indigenous arts, crafts, and culture, and promote gender equality.

The scheme follows on from Stage 1 of the Women’s Resource Centre – which included design, construction, and landscaping of a Great Hall and associated buildings with AWF and local Fijian practice, Clearview Architects.
