The Southern Lookout Featured on Channel 7’s Sydney Weekender

The Southern Lookout featured on Channel 7’s Sydney Weekender, with the program exploring Hornsby Park’s transformation from a working quarry into public parkland in Sydney’s north.

Designed by AJC, the 42-metre elevated cantilevered boardwalk stretches out over the former quarry, offering sweeping views across the turquoise waters below. It gives visitors a vantage point to appreciate the scale of the landscape and the layers of history that have shaped it.

The quarry once supplied road base for major Sydney infrastructure, including the Pacific Highway, Mona Vale Road and Sydney Airport’s runways. Today, visitors can explore walking and bike trails, gather in picnic spaces and discover remnants of that industrial past. More than 130 species have been recorded in the park, including swamp wallabies, echidnas and 67 species of birds.

Just a short distance from Hornsby station, the park offers a place to explore, relax and connect with nature.
