Our Lady of Fatima Church

Rather than adopting traditional church architecture, Our Lady of Fatima’s inclusive, communal design derives from the 1963 Second Vatican Council.

Our Lady of Fatima is a Catholic Church and parish centre in the southern Sydney suburb of Caringbah. AJC designed the church with the aim of bringing the community closer together, and the church now acts as a local gathering place.
Our Lady of Fatima’s architecture is a modern interpretation of current Catholic doctrine and the role of the church in the community. Theatre-like, its design sees the altar take centre stage, forming a focal point for surrounding parishioners.

The space maintains an aura of mystery and reverence, while also calling up ‘memories’ of traditional church forms. It features a timber roof structure, circular windows and rich colouring, while aspects of traditional Gothic roof carpentry is embodied in the portal frames. The church seats 600 and features two separate chapels.
