PCYC Parramatta
Fully embracing our Client PCYC’s mission to be Life Changing, AJC undertook concept design work with enthusiasm, knowing that a successful funding application would literally change thousands of young lives in this important central location.
The project is a highly innovative response to an extraordinary landmark site, a complex brief, and a heavily utilised and important ground plane. The site is a 3440sqm parcel of land next to the CommBank Stadium (Western Sydney Stadium) with a 28m height limit. The brief was to include a new PCYC Club building co-located with PCYC NSW head office, Police NSW head office, as well as ground floor retail activation. The requirement for 3x indoor courts meant that the sports hall took up the entire site footprint – the decision to move this to the roof unlocked the ground plane and resulted in a dramatic and iconic cantilevered design.
The brief is of a very similar scale and nature to the Wentworthville Community Recreation Hub. The GFA is 12,500sqm and the basement carpark is a further 3000sqm. The PCYC Club brief includes a main entry and café, a police local area command office, youth drop-in hub, meeting and conference facilities, out-of-school-hours care centre, multi-purpose program rooms, and the above-mentioned indoor sports centre. The total commercial footprint is to be 5500sqm GFA (4500sqm NLA) and has been designed as Grade A office space.
Significantly, AJC’s designs for PCYC Mount Druitt was also instrumental in that project securing WestInvest funding, to the tune of $25.4M.
