Sydney Grammar School Weigall Sports Complex
The new multi-level sports complex will provide a venue for students and local communities to learn, practice and compete in a variety of sporting activities.
Replacing existing multi-purpose courts, the building will accommodate two swimming pools, multipurpose hall and other flexible spaces.
Careful consideration has been made for the surrounding neighbourhood with massing, arrangement and detailing of the building envelope thoughtfully arranged and to provide a high level of amenity to neighbours including solar access, outlook, and visual and acoustic privacy.
The building will present as quiet and polite within a landscaped setting, the material palette is soft and restrained with key architectural features in warm natural tones. The multipurpose sports halls will have a high level of natural ventilation that is part of a low energy passive and active thermal comfort strategy which is also low maintenance.
Located on the existing cricket nets, an ancillary car park of one to two split levels will accommodate 93 spaces. The lower ground level includes the flexibility to be used as a covered outdoor play area while the car park is not in use. During weekdays it has the flexibility to accommodate vehicle queuing associated with the morning drop off and afternoon pickup for the adjacent Edgecliff Preparatory School.
