This project stood out among a highly competitive field due to its ability to innovate and integrate seamlessly with its surrounding environment.
Anglicare’s Gordon Quarter is a boutique development of luxury retirement living apartments which sit majestically in Sydney’s leafy North Shore. Set against natural bushland, Gordon Quarter comprises 40 retirement living units, a heritage-listed mansion, and the 107-room Roden Cutler Lodge residential aged care home.
Opened in August 2022, following a six-year redevelopment of the historic Lady Gowrie village, the development retains charming historical features while catering to the needs of modern retirees through a range of contemporary facilities.
Gordon Quarter showcases architecturally designed one, two and three-bedroom apartments, ranging in price from $2m-$3.8m. The character of the surrounding streetscape was maintained by locating domestic scale apartment buildings on the street frontages.
At the heart of the village is the heritage listed mansion Burnham Thorpe, which was carefully converted into eight retirement living units and retains historical features including the chandelier, grand staircase and heritage ballroom with original sprung floor. The large terrace overlooks the resort-style 20-metre pool and leafy picturesque views.
Residents enjoy community facilities including a café, library, snooker room, wine cellar and outdoor BBQ areas. An onsite Health and Wellness Consultant coordinates a range of wellbeing programs and activities for residents. The village features sustainable design elements including natural light and ventilation, energy- and water-wise fittings, rooftop solar power, rainwater harvesting and individual metering of major on-site water and energy users.
Gordon Quarter has been embraced by the local community, with majority of residents coming from a 15km radius of the village.”
