Anderson Street, Chatswood
The project aims to stand out as the highest quality residential building in Chatswood, combining the best of ‘suburban-urban’ design with oversized apartments, generous balconies, landscaped communal roof terraces and a pocket park with canopy trees on the ground floor.
The design maximises views out from the apartments towards the east and north over the heritage area and with glimpses of the ocean at upper levels, and south to glimpses of the Harbour Bridge and Sydney CBD at upper levels. It also minimises views to the west at lower levels, in particular overlooking the railway line.
The materials and facade design of podium levels are directly inspired by the rich and diverse architectural character of the adjacent conservation area.
The brick podium speaks directly to the adjacent heritage conservation area, with a series of brick portals defining the retail and commercial levels selected to reference the nearby heritage Chatswood Presbyterian Church.
The tower façade is treated with care and simplicity. The balconies connecting the living space are more open to the views at the corners and where they are connected to the bedrooms are more solid for privacy.
The horizontality of the façade is set to create a subtle yet contemporary expression of the building.
On upper floors, there is also a ‘lantern’ element comprised of sliding screens which act as the feature of the building as well as providing optimum solar / privacy control.
The 84 apartments aim to accommodate inter-generational families and downsizers, with 35% of the apartments being 3 and 4-bedroom, including two, 200m2 double storey penthouses on the top floors.
