Bold urban form and scaled up amenity defines the Symphony apartments in Sydney’s south.

AJC won a Design Excellence competition to create a new precinct in Zetland, part of the rapidly evolving southern corridor just 5 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. The site at 84-92 Epsom Road is adjacent to the government-led Green Square development, where Gunyama park, sports field and aquatic centre have significantly boosted residents’ amenity and is forging a sense of community in this important high-growth area.

Our design delivers a residential and mixed-use precinct with a strong urban character defined by well landscaped open greenspace and a mix of essential services and hospitality activating a pedestrian-friendly streetscape.

An elegant approach with design excellence that will make a positive contribution to the urban fabric of this important location. —Competition jury

Four buildings up to 10 storeys in height across two allotments house 215 residential apartments. The Epsom Road site has a fortified street edge, with apartments centred around a landscaped communal courtyard. Buildings facing north onto Gunyama Park are less conventional, with a modular form rising through the site in response to its triangular shape, with wide frontages delivering abundant natural light and spectacular views from Green Square to the city.

Resort-style communal facilities include an indoor heated pool, spa, gymnasium and sauna, secure undercover parking plus landscaped gardens and barbecue facilities.
